The Derby

For the golfers who take part in this monthly tournament known as “The Derby”, most say it is one of the best Laguna Woods Men’s Golf Club events.

The Dates: 1:00 PM on the 4th Thursday of each month.

The Location: A selected course at the Laguna Woods Golf Club.

The Format:  A low handicapper player and a high handicap player are randomly paired to form a two-man team. The teams play an Alternate Shot format where at least one team is eliminated on each hole. If there are ties, in order to eliminate a team, there will be a “chip-off” with two or more teams. This format continues until there is one final team remaining who is then awarded: "The Derby Champion" and bestowed all of its accolades and honors.

The Field: "The Derby" will accommodate up-to 16 two-man teams.

It can be quite a spectacle to see 20 plus golfers all playing a hole at the same time. We get quite a few spectators who have been heard to say this is a great game to watch. 

For the final event of the year, we hold the "The Annual Derby". There is a high turnout for this particular event largely because the LWMGC's enhances the pot.
